Penn’s Woods Painters Donates Memory Boxes to Three Local Hospitals

In 2016, our Penn's Woods Painters Chapter donated more than 100 memory boxes to three local hospitals nearby Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and some hospitals outside of the area through The Tole Friends' Memory Box Association . So far, 2017 has been no different. Nineteen members and friends of the Chapter started the year painting even more memory boxes, which are provided for families of newborns that pass away. Parents can fill these boxes with mementos so they leave the hospital with objects that help them acknowledge and remember their child.

The first project utilized Zentangle. The project was an original design, created by Dottie Shultz, that had two large hearts symbolizing the parents and, where the hearts overlapped, a small heart symbolizing the baby. Members then created their own designs inside the hearts. Zentangle was a new technique for many of the attendees, which they all enjoyed. The second project was Kim Christmas’ “Wooly Sheep” design taught with permission by Judy Vetock.

Thank you to Carol L. Henry, Co-Chair of the Chapter's Memory Box Program for sharing this story and pictures with us!
